02In what order

What happens in what order in a remodel

Most remodels run in the same order, whatever the room, and knowing that order up front usually makes the job much easier to live through.

  1. 01

    Call us

    770-880-6549

Justin or Jacob comes out the same day or the next, walks the rooms with you and gives you one price.

  2. 02

    Tear-out

Old cabinets, fixtures and flooring come out, and the rest of the house is kept clear of the dust. This is the noisiest part of the job, and it usually tells us what is hiding behind the old walls.

  3. 03

    Framing, plumbing and wiring

Our own crews move walls, run the water and drain lines and wire the room before anything is closed up. You will usually see open studs and new lines for a few days here.

  4. 04

    Walls and paint

Drywall goes up, gets finished and painted while the floors are still bare. The room starts to look like a room again, though the dust from sanding is the messiest stretch.

  5. 05

    Floors, cabinets and trim

The finish work goes in last, from the floors and cabinets to the doors and trim. Then we walk through every room with you before we call it finished.

04What we remodel

Kitchens, baths and floors, done in the right order

Most of the remodels we take on around Carrollton, Villa Rica and Douglasville are kitchens, bathrooms and new floors, and plenty of them run through more than one room at once. A kitchen usually brings new cabinets, counters and flooring together, while a bathroom usually means new fixtures, tile and the plumbing behind them.

What makes a remodel go smoothly is doing the work in the right order, so nothing finished gets torn up again for something that should have come first. Our own framing, plumbing and electrical crews handle everything behind the walls, which keeps the whole remodel under one quote and one family.

05Choices

What to pick before the work starts

A remodel usually stalls when something has not been chosen or has not arrived. These are the decisions worth making before the tear-out, so the job never stops and waits on an order.

01

Floors

Why it mattersEvery room the floor runs through

The floors in our photos are luxury vinyl plank, which usually stands up well to kids, pets and spills. Running one floor through several rooms makes a house feel bigger, so pick it early.

02

Cabinets

Why it mattersKitchens, baths and laundry rooms

Cabinets set the layout for everything around them, from the plumbing to the outlets. Once they are picked, the rest of the kitchen or bath can be planned around their exact size.

03

Counters and tile

Why it mattersKitchens, baths and backsplashes

Counters and tile usually come after the cabinets are in, but choosing them early avoids a long wait in the middle of the job. The color and the edge you pick also change how the room reads.

04

Fixtures

Why it mattersSinks, faucets, toilets and lights

Fixtures decide where the water lines and wiring end up behind the walls. Knowing them before the walls close up means no patching later to move a line a few inches.

What your free remodel quote covers

The quote is free and it happens in your house, usually the same day you call or the next. The person who gives you the price is the person who runs the job.

  • Justin or Jacob comes out to your house himself, not a salesman
  • Every room in the job, walked through with you one at a time
  • What moves behind the walls: framing, plumbing and wiring
  • The finishes: floors, cabinets, counters, paint and trim
  • One price for the whole remodel, before any work starts
  • The 5-year workmanship warranty, explained in plain words

One price for the whole remodel before any work starts, and nothing starts until you say yes.

Justin and Jacob answer the phone, days and after 5.

07The quote

What changes the quote on a remodel?

Two kitchens of the same size can be quoted very differently, because what moves and what goes in is different, and these are the things that usually move the number the most.

One price for the whole remodel before any work starts, and nothing starts until you say yes.

  1. 1

    Moving plumbing or a wall

Keeping the sink, the toilet and the walls where they are usually costs the least. Moving a wall or a drain means our framing and plumbing crews have more to do before anything new goes in.

  2. 2

    The finishes you pick

Floors, cabinets, counters and tile all come in a wide range, and your choices usually move the number more than anything else. We talk through every one of them with you at the quote.

  3. 3

    Who supplies the fixtures

Sinks, faucets and lights can be picked out in more than one way, and that changes what the quote covers. We settle it with you at the quote so the price is clear.

  4. 4

What is behind the old walls

Older houses sometimes hide soft subfloor, old wiring or a leak that has been going for years. We tell you exactly what we find before we close anything back up again.

08West Georgia homes

Remodeling older West Georgia homes

Plenty of the houses we remodel in Carrollton, Newnan and Bremen were built decades ago, and older homes usually come with a few surprises behind the walls. Floors that are no longer level, plumbing that has been patched more than once and wiring that was never meant for a modern kitchen are all common.

None of that has to stop a remodel, but it is why the tear-out comes first and why we look before we price the finish. Our own framing, plumbing and electrical crews can usually sort out what we find without waiting on anybody else.

  • Floors out of level

Older floors often sag a little toward the middle of a room. Leveling them before new flooring goes down keeps the new floor from cracking or gapping.

  • Patched plumbing

Lines that have been repaired over the years are usually worth replacing while the walls are open. Replacing them now usually costs far less than opening a finished wall later.

  • Wiring for today

A modern kitchen needs more outlets and circuits than an older house usually has. Our own electrical crew runs the new circuits before the drywall goes up.

Justin and Jacob HulseyFather and son, started in 1989

The permit

We handle the permit where one is needed, which usually means remodels that move walls, plumbing or wiring. That way you never have to sort it out with the city or county office yourself.

Every remodel carries our 5-year workmanship warranty, which covers the way the work was done. If something fails because of how we built it, that is ours to come back and fix.

Our own crews

10Questions

Remodeling questions, answered

What homeowners usually ask before a remodel, from living in the house to moving a wall, and anything else you can ask Justin or Jacob directly.

770-880-6549

Yes. We remodel kitchens, baths and floors, with our own plumbing and electrical crews running the lines behind the walls.

Usually, yes, because the work stays in the rooms in the job and we clean up as we go. A kitchen remodel means time without the kitchen, and we tell you how long at the quote.

The floors in the photos here are luxury vinyl plank, which stands up to kids, pets and spills, and we talk through what fits your house at the quote.

Often, yes, because our framing crew moves walls and our plumbing and electrical crews move whatever runs through them. A wall that carries the roof needs a beam in its place, and we tell you that up front.

Usually the floor, the cabinets and the fixtures, so the job does not stop and wait on an order, and we walk through the list with you at the quote.

No. The quote is free, and we give it in person, usually the same day you call or the next day. Justin or Jacob walks every room in the job with you and gives you one price.
